School Focuses on College and Career

Alta Mesa is on an endeavor to make every student both successful academically and fully prepared educationally to make a sound choice to attend college after high school. The Alta Mesa staff members have pledged to ensure that all students are fully aware of the benefits of college and to work collaboratively in order to prepare students academically.

Each of the classrooms has adopted a college or university in order to promote and educate our young ones about the importance of furthering their education by attending college. Some of the colleges that have been adopted are Stanford University, the University of Oregon, Chico State, Cal Berkley, and San Diego State.

Even the cafeteria, office, and preschools have adopted colleges.

Throughout the Alta Mesa campus, college awareness is promoted by college banners and flags on display; the library has created a book list of grade level stories about colleges and the college experience; and t-shirts for the students that say, “Future College Graduate, Current Alta Mesa Eagle.”

Our teachers meet weekly in order to collaborate and plan future lessons. They work together in order to build a cohesive umbrella of lessons and learning that spans subject matter, grade level, and builds to the next grade as well, all the while keeping in focus what is best for students academically, socially, and emotionally.

Alta Mesa School utilizes rewards and incentive programs, including our Eagle of the Month, where the student’s dreams of what college they will attend and what career to pursue are displayed in the front office. Large murals are being created to promote positive character traits, such as trustworthiness, caring, integrity, and honesty, traits that will ensure success at every level of life.

Alta Mesa believes and teaches that ALL students can and will soar to new heights!
